Metolius Preserve Forest Stewardship Plan, Deschutes Basin Land Trust – 2004

Completed a comprehensive forest stewardship plan for the 1,200-acre Metolius Preserve, a diverse landscape of ponderosa pine and riparian forest at the base of Black Butte, near Sisters, Oregon. The plan integrates a forest restoration strategy to convert stands to unevenaged structure, protect viewsheds and habitat corridors, facilitate recreation and restoration of sockeye salmon and steelhead runs to Lake Creek and Suttle Lake. Wildlife habitat, forest growth and structural development and fire risk/behavior models were used to assess conditions under a range of management scenarios. Silvicultural pathways to achieve desired targets were designed and an implementation plan developed.
